L-3 Acquires MITEQ, Inc. Adds New RF Microwave and Low-Power SATCOM Products and Capabilities

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 2015-- L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that it acquired the assets of MITEQ, Inc. on January 21, 2015 for $41 million, subject to customary adjustments. The business will be combined with L-3’s Narda Microwave-East business located in Hauppauge, N.Y., and the new organization will be called L-3 Narda-Miteq.

The Miteq business develops and manufactures specialized RF microwave products and solid-state SATCOM components that complement the existing Narda product line. The combined L-3 Narda-Miteq business will employ approximately 700 people, providing products for the U.S. military, government agencies, prime contractors and commercial customers. The Miteq acquisition is expected to generate approximately $60 million in sales for the year ending December 31, 2015.

“Miteq adds key products, technical capabilities and other synergies, strong engineering talent and new customers to L-3’s Advanced Communications sector within our Communication Systems segment,” said John S. Mega, president of L-3 Communication Systems. “Together, Narda-Miteq is a stronger and more scalable supplier that creates cross-selling opportunities and helps us build strategic partnerships with our expanding customer base.”

Miteq offers a broad product line of active and passive RF microwave components and low-power SATCOM products for space and military applications. The RF microwave product line includes low-noise and power amplifiers, mixers, solid-state switch assemblies, synthesizers, oscillators and multipliers. SATCOM products include components for airborne and Earth Station systems, as well as solid-state power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, uplink power control units and frequency converters.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 48,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in aerospace systems and national security solutions. Narda Announces Expansion of Variable Attenuator Product Line Product Line

Narda Microwave-East, an L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) company, announced the expansion of its attenuator product line. Responding to customer requests, the expanded line features nine new variable attenuator models. Included in the variable attenuator product line are: miniature, broadband and high power units. These units feature low minimum insertion loss, small size and an adjustable attenuation range of up to 30 db. Additionally, they can be deployed in operational temperatures up to 105ºC.
The attenuators are ideal products for aerospace, defense and test applications. Units in the broadband category feature smooth continuous operation and an adjustable attenuation range of up to 20 db. The high power models provide up to 10 or 20 db adjustable attenuation and can handle power levels up to 500 Watts.
All units are in stock for immediate shipment. As an ISO9001:2000 company, each Narda Variable Attenuator product is manufactured to L-3 Communications’ Quality Assurance Program.

Two-Way Power Divider Model 2382-2 Delivers High Performance from 500 MHz to 6 GHz

The Model 2382-2, a two-way power divider, operates from 500 MHz to 6.0 GHz, handles up to 250 watts CW power, maintains exceptional amplitude and phase balance, low insertion loss, and high isolation. It is ideal for use in commercial and military applications.

The power divider has insertion loss no greater than 1.5 dB at any frequency in its range, phase balance of +/-7 deg., amplitude balance of 0.4 dB, isolation of at least 9 dB from 500 to 1.0 GHz, and 17 dB from 1.0 GHz to 6.0 GHz.  Maximum VSWR is typically 1.5:1 at all ports. Model 2382-2 will handle 100 W CW under any load condition, 220 W CW into a 2:1 VSWR, and 250 W CW into a 1.2:1 VSWR.  It has Type-N female connectors, and measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 1 in.
