Narda Microwave-East, an L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) company, announced the expansion of its attenuator product line. Responding to customer requests, the expanded line features nine new variable attenuator models. Included in the variable attenuator product line are: miniature, broadband and high power units. These units feature low minimum insertion loss, small size and an adjustable attenuation range of up to 30 db. Additionally, they can be deployed in operational temperatures up to 105ºC.
The attenuators are ideal products for aerospace, defense and test applications. Units in the broadband category feature smooth continuous operation and an adjustable attenuation range of up to 20 db. The high power models provide up to 10 or 20 db adjustable attenuation and can handle power levels up to 500 Watts.

Two-Way Power Divider Model 2382-2 Delivers High Performance from 500 MHz to 6 GHz
The Model 2382-2, a two-way power divider, operates from 500 MHz to 6.0 GHz, handles up to 250 watts CW power, maintains exceptional amplitude and phase balance, low insertion loss, and high isolation. It is ideal for use in commercial and military applications.
The power divider has insertion loss no greater than 1.5 dB at any frequency in its range, phase balance of +/-7 deg., amplitude balance of 0.4 dB, isolation of at least 9 dB from 500 to 1.0 GHz, and 17 dB from 1.0 GHz to 6.0 GHz.Maximum VSWR is typically 1.5:1 at all ports. Model 2382-2 will handle 100 W CW under any load condition, 220 W CW into a 2:1 VSWR, and 250 W CW into a 1.2:1 VSWR. It has Type-N female connectors, and measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 1 in.

Narda Announces New Booklet For Selecting the Best PIN Diode Control Product for an Application
PIN diodes are essential tools in the designer’s handbook. There are many resources that provide information about PIN diode characteristics and integration. However, practical information about selecting the proper PIN diode-based product for a specific application is extremely hard to fine. Narda’s new PIN Diode Control Products Application Note was created to fill this void. It includes basic discussions of PIN diode characteristics, the most commonly used PIN-diode based products, and the trade-offs encountered in designing products around them. The merits of various types of control products within a specific category (analog and digital attenuators, for example) are discussed as well.

As demonstrated by Narda’s Model 81000 Satcom Transceiver, this new technology can dramatically reduce the size, weight, and power consumption of even ruggedized military satellite terminals. In a housing measuring just 15 x 6.25 x 3.25 in., and weighing only 15 lb., the Model 81000 not only packs frequency upconverter and downconverter subsystems, but a 13-W linear RF power amplifier, a power supply, control circuits, and Ethernet and RS-485 connectivity.
