Walter Crofut Remembered

It's with deep sadness and respect we at Narda Microwave mourn the passing of our friend and colleague, Walter Crofut. Walter joined the company in 1981 and spearheaded Narda's new product development and marketing efforts throughout his career. His education at Princeton and Brown, combined with his soaring intellect and drive for perfection made him highly respected, both within the company, and throughout the industry. All this, combined with a soft-spoken, congenial personality made Walter a valued co-worker and friend to all.

Our sincerest condolences to Walter's family. All who knew him, both professionally and personally, will sorely miss him.

Narda Announces New Booklet For Selecting the Best PIN Diode Control Product for an Application

PIN diodes are essential tools in the designer’s handbook. There are many resources that provide information about PIN diode characteristics and integration. However, practical information about selecting the proper PIN diode-based product for a specific application is extremely hard to fine. Narda’s new PIN Diode Control Products Application Note was created to fill this void. It includes basic discussions of PIN diode characteristics, the most commonly used PIN-diode based products, and the trade-offs encountered in designing products around them. The merits of various types of control products within a specific category (analog and digital attenuators, for example) are discussed as well.

Narda’s IMS 2011 Exhibit to Feature It’s Newest IMA Technology

Narda will exhibit its outstanding IMA (Integrated Microwave Assembly) products using its new proprietary microwave multilayer circuits (MMC) technology with digital signal processing. These IMA products allow for extremely compact, densely populated modules, consistent with SWaP goals. Embedded microprocessors and FPGA devices make possible adaptive adjustments that compensate for system dynamics and environmental extremes.

Narda’s IMA products are offered in frequency ranges from DC to 60 GHz for applications in EW, MILSATCOM, radar, missile, UAV, and related markets. In addition, IMA products and capabilities from our San Diego Tech Center have been added to the Narda portfolio and will be on display as well. Narda will also exhibit its large array of catalog RF and microwave components for off-the-shelf delivery and its RF Safety products.

Narda's New IMA Technology Featured in Cover Story of November 2010 Issue of Microwaves & RF Magazine

Authored by Erica Aycin, a member of Narda Microwave’s technical staff, the article describes the company’s innovative approach to the design and development of a compact Ku band transceiver for satellite communications (satcom) applications. To read the complete article, please click here.

As demonstrated by Narda’s Model 81000 Satcom Transceiver, this new technology can dramatically reduce the size, weight, and power consumption of even ruggedized military satellite terminals. In a housing measuring just 15 x 6.25 x 3.25 in., and weighing only 15 lb., the Model 81000 not only packs frequency upconverter and downconverter subsystems, but a 13-W linear RF power amplifier, a power supply, control circuits, and Ethernet and RS-485 connectivity. Similar products are available for the X and Ka bands. (Please click here for detailed specifications for the Model 81000.)

Narda has been the pioneer in the design and manufacture of Integrated Microwave Assemblies (IMAs) for more than 30 years. Today its products operate in the 500 MHz to 50 GHz frequency range and include:

  • DROs/Phased-locked DROs
  • Frequency synthesizers
  • Arbitrary Waveform Generators
  • Special Amplifiers
  • SATCOM Up/Down Converter Modules
  • LNAs and SSPAs
  • PIN Switch Assemblies
